Blue Hill at Stone Barns Wedding: Randi and Evan

Due to covid, Randi and Evan decided to have an intimate wedding with family two years ago and planned a bigger party in 2022 at Blue Hill at Stone Barns.  It was on their 2 year anniversary to the date.  They named it a “We Do” Re-Do.  Paperfinger illustrated their save the date with Blue Hill at Stone Barns.  Katie Fischer Design created their invitation suite which had a painting of their dog Dipsea on the liner, which I absolutely adored.  Since they already took a lot of wedding portraits in Randi’s wedding gown 2 years ago, she decided to wear a different dress for their portraits around Blue Hill at Stone Barns with Allan Zepeda.

The weather kept us all guessing leading up to the big day.  The couple really wanted to host a large portion of their event outside in the courtyard.  We had plan A for perfect weather, plan B for slight rain and plan C for worst cast sideways rain.  Our rain plan was for a Sperry tent to be setup in the courtyard by Greenwich Tent Company.  Hurricane Ian which was downgraded to a tropical storm led to some rain that morning, and a sprinkling of rain through the evening.  Thankfully it remained pretty light!  It was colder than we expected for early October, but we had heaters setup throughout the courtyard, and thick blankets for guests to use.  Once we knew the tent was going up, and the weather was turning colder than expected, I kept tweaking the floorplan in the days leading up to the wedding and we made adjustments onsite the day of as well.  I am so grateful for clients who trusted me to implement their vision and a fantastic team of vendors who were flexible team players who all hustled to get it done!

Guests arrived to the ceremony in the courtyard, with heaters, blankets and hot apple cider.  We made sure to place blankets on the seats of the three grandparents in attendance.  A quartet of strings and guitar played for the ceremony from Jarrell Entertainment.  Randi and Even both walked in together to “Can’t do Much” by Waxahatchee.  A good friend of the couple officiated their vow renewal and lots of laughter followed with their sweet and funny vows.  A.P. Bio used a fall inspired palette of peach, blush, apricot yellow with burgundy accents.  The ceremony structure was lush and overgrown with some asymmetry to show some negative space.  The aisle was a dramatic display of potted plants, grasses and florals.  All under the beautiful Sperry tent with string lights twinkling away.

For the cocktail reception in the restaurant, guests were greeted with an abundant escort card installation by A.P. Bio with painted grey crates to emulate a bountiful farm stand.  They incorporated potted plants, fruit and vegetables on the harvest table.  Some of the calligraphed escort cards were stuck into moss in ceramic bowls and the rest displayed on the table.  Passed hors d’oeuvres included habanada peppers, donko shitake donuts, harukei turnips, smoked tomato soup, Stone Barns charcuterie croquettes, polenta fries and pastrami marmalade, fish bites, and baby gem lettuce with cured egg.  Guests were able to enjoy the bakery experience and the grill outside on the terrace with mini beet dogs.

This was our largest dinner to date in the upper Hayloft with 220 guests.  It was a little cozy, but it worked!  I think that keeping all the round tables to 120” rounds helped the room not feel so crowded.  When we mix in the larger 132” rounds, I do feel it makes it a touch harder to fit the tables nicely around each other.  We brought in a platinum dupionique iridescence linen from BBJ La Tavola for the dining tables with an ivory hemstitch napkin.  Katie Fischer Design provided the letterpressed menus on handmade cotton paper.  Place cards on handmade paper with brush calligraphy showed each guest where they were sitting at the head table.  Low lush floral arrangements in the fall leaning palette were housed in ribbed mercury glass bowls with a mixture of different votives.  The long head table had florals in varying sizes and heights, which were accented with twisted tapers in parchment colour.  A dramatic installation on the window framed the head table beautifully.  Each place setting had a little sprig of rosemary as an accent.

Dinner menu:

Honeynut & 898 Squash, in the style of a tartare

Domaine Roger Neveu ‘Côtes des Embouffants’ Sancerre, Loire Valley, France 2020

This morning’s farm egg, potato blini, mushrooms

Presqu’ile Winery Chardonnay, Santa Barbara County, California 2019

Pasture-raised chicken, polenta, shelling beans, smoked tomato

Petterino Riserva, Gattinara, Piedmont, Italy 2012

After dinner guests were brought downstairs to the lower Haybarn and tented courtyard for dancing.  We had an 11 piece band from Café Wha who kept everyone busy on the dancefloor.  Bistro lights decorated the ceiling of the Haybarn and the open section of the courtyard.  Lounge furniture from Patina was spread out indoors and outside to give guests lots of seating options.  The wedding cake by Blue Hill at Stone Barns was corn and einkorn cake, blueberry jam, corn cremeux and sorghum buttercream.  A friend of the bride Brian made the delicate sugar flowers which he placed himself and they were such a gorgeous and meaningful touch!  While guests were dancing downstairs, the wedding cake was passed, along with s’more semifreddo, brown butter cake, lemon verbena and peach donuts, and burnt honey and sesame panna cotta.

A.P. Bio created a photobooth floral installation in the silo lobby with furniture from Patina.  Amazebooths captured the guests and made prints onsite for them to take home.  The food continued late night with passed pizza, french fries, mini reubens and fried pickle.  It was an epic celebration that was so full of love!  Such a joy to work with Randi and her mom Andrea throughout this process.  Mazel tov!
